Echeveria is a large genus of flowering plants in the Crassulaceae family, native to semi-desert areas of Central America, from Mexico to northwestern South America.
Ewa and Voytek Foik are specialists on plants that survive in extreme environments. For many years these Polish born botanists have been travelling the world collecting rare and delicate species of cacti and succulents. They have engineered a state-of-the-art greenhouse to host over 2000 plants including this beautiful succulent. Mabel Ueda, a senior member of The Desert Plant Society in Vancouver, gave this particular plant to them some 32 years ago. Over the years their friendship developed strongly and lasted until last year, when she passed away at 93. She has been sharing plants with Ewa and Voytek for many years, but this one was her favorite.
With over 50 different species, these versatile plants look delicate with their waxy looking leaves, but don’t be fooled, these plants are tough enough to survive and take root without any water in some of the harshest environments on the planet. Harness their power and feel grounded in your Echeveria leggings, put your roots down, and remember to breathe. The possibilities are endless!
